Mie Prefecture is located roughly in the center of Japan, known as a treasure house of seafood like Spiny lobster, abalone, oysters and blowfish; the Shima region, in particular, has long been known as "Miketsukuni" (the Kingdom of Gourmets). It is also the producer of the famous Matsusaka beef, high-class marbled Wagyu beef. Fine marbling, soft texture, and sweetly flavorful fat make this meat a work of art for your tastebuds. As well, there is Ise tea with its perfect blend of sweetness and astringency.

Mie contains the Ise Jingu, cherished as the hometown of the Japanese heart, and the Kumano Kodo World Heritage site; it has charmed people throughout the ages. In addition, it has Sakakibara Onsen, noted in The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon as one of Japan's three great hot springs, and the hometowns of the acclaimed haiku poet Matsuo Basho and the scholar of Japanese classics Motoori Norinaga. It is also the origin spot of the Iga-ryu Ninja. Try out the ninja style for yourself on a visit to the famous Akame Shijuhachi Waterfall, among Japan's Hundred Great Waterfalls and Hundred Great Forest Experiences.
