Here are some traditional local dishes that pair well with Japanese sake. Teppai: A winter dish featuring fatty crucian carp, daikon, and spring onions seasoned with vinegar and miso. Slightly sweet with a bitter undertone, it goes well with sake. Shoyu mame: Roasted broad beans marinated in soy sauce. A perfect pairing. Miso-marinated Japanese Spanish mackerel: An early spring dish featuring fresh Japanese Spanish mackerel marinated in miso that is a sheer delight to the senses. Hosoten: Fried fishcake sticks that go great with sake!

Dubbed "Udon Prefecture," Kagawa offers not only udon noodles but much, much more. Although it's the smallest prefecture in Japan, it holds vast scenic beauty between the Seto Inland Sea National Park to the north and Asan Mountains to the south. Places like Kotohira-gu (a.k.a. Konpira-san), the Genpei war battlefield of Yashima, and Ritsurin Garden, which is officially designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, were all popular school trip destinations throughout much of the twentieth century. Today these places are making a comeback as former students return on trips down memory lane that are making these spots more unforgettable than ever.
